Drug knowledge popularization:Efficacy and function of VITAMIN D3

Efficacy
Vitamin D3 can promote the absorption of calcium and phosphorus by the small intestinal conjunctiva and renal tubules, promote bone metabolism, maintain the balance of blood calcium and blood phosphorus, promote bone mineralization, and increase muscle strength and balance.
Indications
Prevention and treatment of vitamin D deficiency.
Chronic hypocalcemia, hypophosphatemia, rickets and osteomalacia with chronic renal insufficiency, familial hypophosphatemia.
Treatment of hypoparathyroidism (postoperative, idiopathic or pseudohypoparathyroidism).
Treatment of acute, chronic and potentially postoperative tetany and idiopathic tetany.
Prevention and treatment of postmenopausal and senile osteoporosis.

VD
Interaction
Magnesium-containing antacids used together with vitamin D3, especially in patients with chronic renal failure, can cause hypermagnesemia.
Barbiturates, phenytoin, anticonvulsants, primidone, etc. can reduce the effect of vitamin D3, so vitamin D3 should be supplemented when taking anticonvulsants for a long time to prevent osteomalacia.
The use of calcitonin and vitamin D3 can offset the effect of the former on hypercalcemia.
A large amount of calcium or thiazide diuretics combined with the usual amount of vitamin D3 may cause hypercalcemia.
Cardiac glycosides and vitamin D3 should be used with caution, because if vitamin D causes hypercalcemia, it is easy to induce arrhythmia.
A large number of phosphorus-containing drugs used together with vitamin D3 can induce hyperphosphatemia.
