ARTEMISININ

Artemisinin is a colorless acicular crystal extracted from the leaves of Artemisia annua (i.e. Artemisia annua), a compound inflorescence plant. Its stem does not contain Artemisia annua. Its chemical name is (3R, 5As, 6R, 8As, 9R, 12s, 12ar) – octahydro-3.6.9-trimethyl-3,. 12-bridging-12h-pyran (4.3-j) – 1.2-benzodice-10 (3H) – one. The molecular formula is c15h22o5.

Artemisinin is the most effective antimalarial specific drug after pyrimidine, chloroquine and primaquine, especially for cerebral malaria and anti chloroquine malaria. It has the characteristics of quick effect and low toxicity. It was once called “the only effective malaria treatment drug in the world” by the World Health Organization.
