Drug knowledge popularization:Efficacy and function of ORS

Oral rehydration salts are water and electrolyte balance drugs used to prevent and treat mild to moderate dehydration caused by diarrhea, vomiting or fluid loss (through the skin and respiratory tract, etc.).
Sodium ions and potassium ions are necessary to maintain a constant osmotic pressure in the body, and a constant osmotic pressure is necessary to maintain life. If the sodium and potassium in the body are lost too much, hyponatremia syndrome or hypokalemia syndrome will appear . Acute diarrhea, high temperature in summer, and excessive sweating during labor can all cause the above symptoms. This product can replenish sodium, potassium and body fluids, and regulate the balance of water and electrolytes.
Oral rehydration salts are compound preparations whose main ingredients include sodium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium citrate (or sodium bicarbonate) and glucose. Due to the different electrolyte components contained, there are 3 common clinical oral rehydration salts.

It can be used to prevent and treat mild dehydration caused by acute and chronic diarrhea.
For the prevention and treatment of mild to moderate dehydration caused by diarrhea, vomiting, fluid loss through the skin and respiratory tract, water, potassium, sodium and chlorine can be supplemented.
