Composition
In vials containing the wquivalent of 1 gram pure streptomycin bese (1 million units) .
Indication
Streptomycin Sulfate has good therapeutic value against infections due to many specifies of Gram-negative and acid-fast bacteria. It is mainly indicated for:
Tuberculosis of lungs, lymph, mouth, trachea, bronchi, intestines,genito-urinary system, bone, joints etc. It is especially effective for acute military tuberculosis and exudative pulmonary tuberculosis. Tuberculous meningitis,peritonitis and enteritis.
Pneumonia due to klebsiella pneumonia.
Bacterial infections of urinary tract.
Tularaemia and bubonic plague.
Endocarditis and septicaemia due to penicillin resistant bacteria.
Administration and Dosage
Shake to loose the power, take off the central disc of the aluminium cover,and disinfect with 75% alcohol.Dissolve the powder with sterile distilled water or sterile normal saline to the desired concentration by means of a sterile hypodermic syringe (3-5ml of water for each gram of the drug).
Adequate dosage should be determined by the physician according to nature and severity of the disease. Usual dosage for:
Adults:0.5-1g daily, in one or two intramuscular injections.
Children: 12-25mg, per kg. Of body weight daily, in one or two intramuscular injections.
Caution
With long-continued therapy or high dosages of Streptomycin Sulfate, headache, fever or even haematuria or auditory impairment may occur. Under such circumstances, the dosage should be reduced or temporarily suspended, and physician should be consulted forthwith.
Do not administer intravenously.
